What is Ativan?

Ativan (lorazepam) is a part of a class of medicines called benzodiazepines. Ativan affects brain chemicals that nervous people may find unbalanced. Ativan is used to relieve anxiety symptoms. Ativan may also be used, for reasons not stated in this drug guide.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What should I avoid while taking Ativan?

Avoid drinking alcohol. Dangerous side effects could occur.
Ativan may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you. Dizziness or severe drowsiness can cause falls or other accidents.

Ativan side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Ativan: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:

·                     severe drowsiness;

·                     thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;

·                     unusual changes in mood or behavior;

·                     confusion, aggression, hallucinations;

·                     worsening sleep problems;

·                     sudden restless feeling or excitement;

·                     vision changes; or
